You certainly don’t want to miss Dickens’ actual prose by relying on movie adaptations and this audio book with benefits is a wonderful way to do that while being busy with Christmas chores! Another way Dickens intended his story to be enjoyed was in live performance (set up for Doctor Who–Season 1, Episode 3 “The Unquiet Dead” by the way). The author’s own prompt copy is in the special collection of New York Public Library and this one man performance is available for free, at least for this Christmas season, December 2014.

Start at 6 minutes for the second introduction to the history of the book and the public readings.

I LOVED that. I think he recorded it last year. Gaiman is our modern day Dickens in many ways.
