For anyone who is interested in the video of nuclear explosions, there is an excellent film called “Trinity and Beyond,” which is primarily old, recently released footage of nuclear tests. Very little narration (but what is narrated is done by William Shatner), a few interviews, and lots of information that is not particularly well known. Very informative, beautiful, and disturbing. Highly recommend. It is on Netflix instant watch at the moment, but try to find it at your local video store (i.e. not Blockbuster)!

I am a knitter and an English teacher. I found your podcast this past summer and have been catching up. I showed the nuclear bomb thing to all my students and my son. They were astounded by that video! It really affected the way they thought of the cold war. It also gave a new view to the students who had studied The Crucible. Thank you for that link and for your podcast.

ok, so i tried it, a cup of powdered milk into a gallon of skim and it was FABULOUS! it came out with about a cup of whey on top (which i poured off into a bowl) and the rest of it, without straining, was approximately storebought Dannon yogurt consistency. think about it for your next pot o’ yogurt!

This yogurt recipe looks fantastic! i love the idea of using the crockpot as your heater/incubator.

DISCLAIMER–I haven’t tried this yet, but will report my findings when I do. Ymmv.

Possible TIP–i read in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s “The River Cottage Family Cookbook” that you can add powdered milk to thicken your yogurt. recommendation–about the same amount of dry milk as yogurt – so for this recipe, about a cup. Interpolating his directions (which are England-English) for the crockpot method, I’d add the milk powder right into the milk first thing.

Let me know how it turns out if you try it first. 🙂
