    Loved this story. (Spoilers follow!) At the end, when Braddock is attempting to bargain, I thought it was more a comment on his hubris in thinking that he actually owned any of it, and in thinking he had More claim over it than God, to the point of being able to offer it up, not as tribute, but in trade. The character sees himself as God’s equal. And God laughs at him, as in the laughing of the trees.
