If you’ve never read Wilkie Collins before here’s what you need to know:
- His love life was *ahem* very modern
- He was besties with many smart women of his day, including George Eliot
- He (not Poe, not Conan-Doyle) invented modern detective fiction with The Woman in White and The Moonstone (which we will do…someday…)
Like Dracula, this book required a full cast—and I love this cast!
I cannot emphasize this enough: this is the most page-turner-y-book from this time period that I have ever read. I watched my husband wolf this sucker down in under 24 hours.
Yes, it really is that good. (I’m embarrassed it took me this long to do the book on CraftLit.)
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do—actually, I know you will
